Cyclones & Ice Bears Tied 1-1 in Playoff Series

The Pee Dee Cyclones and Knoxville Ice Bears split the first two games of their best of five playoff series this past weekend at the Florence Civic Center. The Cyclones won 5-4 in overtime on Friday night as Edan Welch scored the first goal of the game and the game winner at 3:50 of overtime. Brett Roat also added two goals for Pee Dee. The Cyclones goaltender Kelly Shields stopped 62 of 66 shots for the victory.
On Saturday night, Knoxville turned the tables with a 7-1 victory to even the series. The Ice Bears jumped to a 5-0 lead as leading scorer Kevin Swider scored twice for Knoxville. Defenseman Steve Birch scored the lone Cyclones goal at 4:55 of the second period.
The series now shifts to Knoxville, Tennessee for games three, four, and five (if necessary):

Cyclones Team Notes: As he was during the regular season, Edan Welch is the Cyclones leading scorer in the playoffs with two goals & two assists for four points in the first two games played. Brett Roat has two goals and an assist for three points. Defenseman Chris Affinati leads the team in plus/minus with a +2 rating. Defenseman Josh Vanderbreggen leads the team in penalty minutes with 21.
