Cutters Top Pitcher Valles To Return

New Haven County Cutters News Release


West Haven- The New Haven County Cutters announced today starting pitcher Rolando Valles has re-signed for the 2006 season. Valles started 18 games last season compiling a 9-6 record with a 3.59 ERA. The 6'4" lefty struck out 85 batters in 125.1 innings of work. Valles was the Cutters' number one pitcher appearing in more innings then any other pitcher on the team.

Rolando signed with the Houston Astros as a non-drafted free agent in 1997 and spent five seasons in the Astros organization. While with the Astros, Rolando spent most of his time coming out of the bullpen; in 1998 he recorded 21 saves with an impressive 0.35 ERA in 51 innings of work. During the 2002 and 2003 seasons Valles pitched for Amarillo (TX) of the Central League where he recorded a 12-5 record.

The Venezuela native is no stranger to success, this past winter Rolando pitched for Caracas of the Venezuelan Winter League, who went on to become champions. Rolando pitched in 13 games with Caracas recording a 1-0 record and a 3.38 ERA. Valles was also a member of the Venezuelan team this past winter, which went on to win the Caribbean World Series.

The Cutters kick off the 2006 season on May 25th as they travel to take on the Brockton Rox. The Cutters will play their home opener on May 29th against 2005 Champion, Worcester Tornadoes.
