Cutters snap Pride winning streak at four, 10-3

(Nashua, NH, July 2, 2006) The New Haven County Cutters pounded out 13 hits including three home runs on Sunday afternoon in a 10-3 triumph over the Nashua Pride, snapping Nashua's four-game winning streak. The game was played in front of 986 fans at Historic Holman Stadium.

The Cutters (21-16) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the second inning off Pride starter and loser Lenny Carter (0-2). Jeremy Terni, who drove in six runs, stroked a two-out, two-run double to left center field. Horace Lawrence III and Orlando Encarnacion belted back to back home runs in the sixth inning to knock Carter out of the ballgame with New Haven County on top, 5-1.

After the Pride (15-20) cut the margin to three in the seventh inning thanks to a sacrifice fly by Glenn Murray, the Cutters added five in the eighth inning, four of them on a grand slam by Terni.

Lawrence III had three hits and two runs batted in on the day for the Cutters and Derrick Gibson added three hits for the winners.

Sean Dobson and James Lofton each had two hits and an RBI for the Pride.

New Haven County starter Jarrett Stawarz (2-2) worked six and one-third innings to post his second win of the season. Stawarz allowed all three Nashua runs on nine hits, walking two and striking out five. Justin Knoff came out of the bullpen in the seventh inning and held the Pride scoreless the rest of the way. Knoff earned his first save.

Carter lasted five and a third innings for the Pride, surrendering nine hits and five runs, all earned.

After a day off on Monday, the Pride will resume their schedule on the Fourth of July in Worcester against the defending Can-Am League champion Tornadoes. Lefthander Mark Hamilton is scheduled to pitch for the Pride on Tuesday evening.
