Cutters and Yale Field Bustling With Activity

May 24, 2005 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Haven County Cutters News Release

Activity in and around Yale Field has been at a non-stop pace this week as the New Haven County Cutters make the final preparations for the upcoming season, which officially starts away from home on Thursday when the team takes on the Quebec Les Capitales. After the four-game set in Quebec, the team opens up at home on Monday, Memorial Day, at 6:05 p.m. against the Grays.

Manager Mike Church planned on having one more intra-squad game on Tuesday evening so that the team's pitchers could get some more work and the players could get some practice playing under the lights. The team is scheduled to have a workout on Wednesday before departing.

Yale Field is also in the news. Baseball fans are going to see—and hear—some improvements again this season when they visit the stadium for Cutters games.

The Cutters did much of the work themselves in their first season when they rebuilt the concessions areas, upgraded the restrooms, built a Kids Zone and improved concourse lighting. This time, Yale University and the Baseball Foundation of Connecticut have made even more improvements.

Re-paving the walkways outside the stadium is nearing completion, and paving of the driveway leading through the Cutters' offices and into the rear parking lot is under way.

Fans exiting the stadium also can thank the BFC and Yale because the exterior lighting, including the area leading to the lower parking lot, is being improved.

Inside Yale Field fans will notice a major upgrading of the sound system.

Tickets to the Cutters' home opener can be purchased online at www.CuttersBaseball.com or by calling (203) 777-5636. Fans attending the game will be given magnetic schedule calendars courtesy of New Alliance Bank along with being treated to a post-game fireworks show.

Connecticut Native Added to Front Office Staff

Vic Rinaldi, who hails from Waterbury, has joined the Cutters' off-the-field team as Director of Baseball Operation. No stranger to independent baseball in Connecticut, Rinaldi worked for the Waterbury Spirit as the Director of Group Sales in 2000.

Rinaldi played collegiate baseball at Sacred Heart in Fairfield, CT, where he was a four-year starter at shortstop. He became a member of the Pioneers' coaching staff after his graduation.

In addition to his work with the Cutters, Rinaldi is the co-owner (with Manager Mike Church) of Diamond Kings Academy, a baseball and softball instructional facility in Bristol, CT.
