Curve Announce 2018 Promotional Schedule

CURVE, Pa. - The Altoona Curve revealed their 2018 promotional schedule on Tuesday afternoon, part of the year-long celebration of the 20th Season of Altoona Curve Baseball, presented by Stuckey Subaru.

This season's promotional schedule features 11 bobbleheads, appearances by Andy Van Slyke, Adam Hyzdu and Diamond Dallas Page, 21 fireworks shows plus unique giveaways, theme nights and more excitement in Curve, PA.

"This has been a very busy off-season," Curve general manager Derek Martin said. "We have been focused on bringing fresh ideas to the entertainment at PNG Field for 2018. We have done several surveys with our community on what they want to see in 2018. We are very excited to get the season started."

As part of the team's 20th season celebration, the Curve will have 11 bobblehead giveaways honoring the Fans' Choice All-Time Curve Team, as voted on last fall. Curve fans chose their favorite honorees at manager, the fielding positions, starting pitcher and relief pitcher for the set, which features many of the legendary names to pass through Curve, PA since 1999.

"The bobblehead series is completely chosen by fan voting, which is pretty cool by itself," Martin said. "The fans nailed the selections and it will bring a lot of energy to the games every Saturday as we honor some of the great Curve players."

This year's promotional schedule brings three exciting appearances to PNG Field, beginning with former Pirates outfielder and three-time National League All-Star Andy Van Slyke on Tuesday, April 10, presented by Peoples.

On June 16, legendary Curve outfielder Adam Hyzdu will be on hand for an appearance as his All-Time Team bobblehead is given out to fans. Hyzdu starred for the Curve during the franchise's first two seasons and his number 16 was retired in 2000. After setting several team records that still stand today, Hyzdu went on to play seven season in the majors with the Pirates, Red Sox, Padres and Rangers.

For the third straight season, the Curve will host Pro Wrestling Night on August 23, featuring an appearance by WWE Hall of Fame inductee Diamond Dallas Page. With a pro wrestling career dating back to 1991, DDP is a three-time WCW World Champion among countless other titles and honors.

On June 8, the world's best extreme pogo crew, the Xpogo Stunt Team, will perform at PNG Field. Featuring Championship Pro Athletes flying over 10 feet in the air on extreme pogo sticks throwing down flips and incredible tricks, the Xpogo Stunt Team holds 13 current Guinness World Records and has appeared on dozens of national and international shows, including the TODAY Show, Ellen, Queen Latifah and more.

"Our fan base has always enjoyed when we bring in a celebrity or entertainment group and this year we won't disappoint," Martin said. "I have never met Adam Hyzdu and will be looking forward to meeting him after hearing so much about him. Bringing him back on the night we give his bobbleheads out will definitely be a treat."

The Curve will wear four specialty jerseys during the 2018 season, including a Digital Camo jersey for every Wednesday home game, presented by the Altoona Mirror, as a nod to the brave active duty military and veterans throughout the region. The Digital Camo jerseys will be auctioned on August 29.

The Curve's popular Star Wars Night returns on May 4, with the team donning a special Han Solo jersey, presented by AIrCon Engineers. The night comes just weeks before the release of the latest Star Wars anthology installment, Solo: A Star Wars Story. On May 16, the Curve will celebrate Medical Professionals Night with a Scrubs jersey, presented by FirstEnergy. For PA Heritage Night on August 3, the team will sport a unique Three Deer Moon jersey, inspired by the Three Wolf Moon T-shirt internet phenomenon with a recognition of Pennsylvania's state animal, the white-tailed deer.

The specialty jerseys will be auctioned with all proceeds benefiting area charitable organizations.

"Our community is so gracious when it comes to giving back and we are proud to partner with non-profits to help raise awareness and money for a number of organizations," Martin said. "The types of specialty jerseys we are doing this year are like no others."

Along with the All-Time Team bobblehead series, the Curve will again offer a slate of unique, fun giveaways for fans during the 2018 season. The reigning Eastern League champs will hand out a Replica 2017 Championship Ring on April 11 presented by Stuckey Subaru. The Curve will honor last year's title team with a 2017 Championship Team Poster on April 24, plus a Replica Championship Ticket giveaway on May 3, presented by The Award Man & ARC.

The championship celebration takes a unique twist on June 28 for "The Office Night," as the Curve theme the game around the hit NBC TV sitcom. The first 1,000 fans will take home a Championship Ring in Jell-O, presented by Stuckey Subaru, a nod to the classic, reoccurring prank of putting co-workers' possessions in Jell-O by "The Office" character Jim Halpert throughout the show's run.

"When we talk with our fans, the promotional giveaways are always mentioned as a popular part of our season schedule," Martin said. "We have tied in our 20th season and last year's Eastern League championship to our giveaway series for 2018."

Fans will be treated to the Curve's popular FIREWORKS shows for 21 games in 2018, beginning with Opening Day on April 5. Beginning May 4, fans can enjoy spectacular fireworks shows for every Friday home game, presented by the Altoona Mirror. Fireworks shows are scheduled for April 5, May 4, May 18, June 5, June 7, June 8, June 15, June 17, June 27, July 4, July 6, July 17, July 26, July 27, August 3, August 5, August 10, August 12, August 24, August 26 and August 30.

"As promised, we said we would have at least 20 fireworks shows to commemorate our 20th season," Martin said. "Fans have voted on what music they want tied to the firework themes. The themes always give the firework shows a different flare."

The popular Daily Value Promotions return for 2018, with brand-new Mitsubishi Mondays kicking off the weeks. Fans can stop by Five Star Mitsubishi in Altoona to pick up free Grandstand tickets on Mondays for that evening's game. Two-for-Tuesdays, presented by Atlantic Broadband, return this season, when fans can take advantage of 2-for-1 specials on tickets, hot dogs and small popcorn. On Winning Wednesdays, presented by the Pennsylvania Lottery, fans have the chance to win prizes from the PA Lottery, and the 50-cent boneless Wing Wednesday special returns. Thursdays in Curve, PA are Thirstday, presented by Q94, with $2 specials on select 16 oz. draft beers and regular-size sodas, plus $1 Juniata-brand hot dogs.

"This year, there is a different spin to our Daily Value Promotions thanks to our friends at Five Star Mitsubishi," Martin said. "We are excited to see how the community reacts to our new Mitsubishi Mondays. We wanted to collaborate with one of our partners and try something totally different to offer to our community to thank them for supporting us for 20 years."

Sunday are for the kids this season in Curve, PA. All 11 Ritchey's Dairy Kids' Club games, which is FREE and open to children ages 3-12, will be held on Sundays at PNG Field. The Ritchey's Dairy Kids' Club includes tickets for the 11 Sunday games, plus members receive 10% off kids' apparel and novelties in the Stockyard and the Caboose team stores, gain access to an exclusive team autograph session, plus much more. The 20th Season of Altoona Curve Baseball, presented by Stuckey Subaru, opens on Thursday, April 5 as the reigning Eastern League champions host the Akron RubberDucks at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
