Norfolk Tides News Release

May 28, 2008 - Durham's Jeremy Cummings allowed one hit over seven strong innings, pitching the Bulls past the Tides 7-1 Wednesday night from Harbor Park.

Coming off a start in which he retired the final 18 batters he faced, Cummings (4-0) took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before Brandon Fahey broke it up with a soft two-out single down the left field line. Cummings issued just two walks while striking out five, helping the Bulls win for the eighth time in ten contests.

Fahey was the only member of the Tides to collect multiple hits in the contest, as he connected for two singles. He also scored Norfolk's lone run of the game in the bottom of the ninth, courtesy of an RBI single off the bat of Mike Costanzo.

Jon Leicester (2-6) took the loss for Norfolk, as he suffered his fifth losing decision in as many starts. Leicester struck out a season-high seven batters, but surrendered four first inning runs and walked five in five innings of work.

Jim Miller worked two shutout innings in relief for Norfolk, the ninth straight outing in which he hasn't allowed an earned run. Over that stretch, Miller has struck out 15 in 14.0 innings of work, and he's held opposing batters to a .108 average (5-for-46).

The Tides and Bulls will wrap up their five-game, four-day series on Thursday afternoon, with first pitch from Harbor Park slated for 12:15. Andy Mitchell (4-2, 4.41) will take the hill for Norfolk against Bulls righty Ben Hendrickson (4-3, 2.27).
