(Vero Beach) - The Daytona Cubs extended their winning streak to three games with a 3-1 win over Vero Beach Thursday night at Holman Stadium. Jimmy Rohan hit his first home run of the season for the Dodgers only run. The series continues Friday night at 7:00 PM with Matt Merricks starting for Vero Beach.

Daytona scored early against Dodgers starter Julio Pimentel. Sam Fuld led off with a double and scored when he stole third and the ball sailed into left. One out later Ryan Harvey doubled to left. He went to third on a ground out and scored on a passed ball.

Despite another double and passed ball in the 1st inning, Pimentel settled down and did not allow another run until the 4th. In that frame, Matt Craig led off with a single and went to second when Jeff Culpepper walked. Joe Simokaitis sacrificed him to third and a sac fly off the bat of Nate Spears plated Craig for a 3-0 Daytona lead.

Rohan's homer came in the 8th off reliever Clint Brannon. Cubs starter Grant Johnson dealt seven scoreless innings, scattering four singles and never allowing the Dodgers past second base. He didn't walk anyone and finished with four strikeouts.

Xavier Paul had his second consecutive multi-hit game for Vero Beach. Zach Hammes threw two scoreless relief innings and Wesley Wright faced the minimum in the 9th. Vero catcher Gabriel Gutierrez threw out three of four would-be basestealers.
