Cubs Shut out 6-0 at Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs, CO - One night after setting a season-high for hits in a blowout win, the Iowa Cubs (42-38) were shut out 6-0 by the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (35-47) at Security Service Field. The Cubs out-hit the Sky Sox 10-8 on Saturday night, but left 12 men on base. The Cubs and New Orleans were both shut out for a league-high eighth time on Saturday. This series is tied 2-2.
Cubs' starter Eric Jokisch (5-8) allowed all six runs on seven hits in six innings. He walked three and struck out six. Two of those walks came in the bottom of the first inning and both scored as part of a three-run rally. Kyle Parker drove in the first run with a single and Dustin Garneau drove in two with a base hit of his own. Tim Smalling had an RBI single in the third inning and Nolan Arrenado, in his first game on a Major League rehab assignment with the Sky Sox, drove in two with a double in the fourth. All four run-producing hits came with two outs in their innings. Jokisch has allowed 21 runs in 24.1 innings over his last four starts and has lost his last four decisions.
RH Brett Tomko (1-0) scattered six hits over five scoreless innings to earn his first decision with the Sky Sox. Colorado Springs is the ninth Pacific Coast League team that the 41-year-old Tomko has pitched for - a PCL record. Leuris Gomez allowed two hits and two walks, but struck out two in his two innings of relief. Brooks Brown allowed two hits and struck out two over the final two innings.
3B Kris Bryant led the Cubs with three hits, extending his hitting streak to seven games. Bryant is batting .480 (12-for-45) with three doubles, four home runs, and nine RBI during this streak and has his overall average up to .351 in 10 games with the I-Cubs. 2B Arismendy Alcantara was 2-for-5 and has also hit safely in seven straight games to set a new season-high. Alcantara is batting .500 (15-for-30) with three doubles, a triple, two homers, eight RBI, and nine runs scored during his streak.
The Cubs and Sky Sox wrap up this series on Sunday afternoon at 2:35 PM Central time. The Cubs will have LH Tsuyoshi Wada (8-4, 2.73) on the mound against LH Brian Burress (0-2, 12.08) for the Sox. The game will be broadcast live on AM 940 and streamed live at iowacubs.com with the On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show starting at 2:15 PM.
