El Paso Chihuahuas News Release
Jeff Francoeur's game-ending single propelled the El Paso Chihuahuas to a 7-6 win Saturday afternoon over Tacoma and gave the Chihuahuas their second straight one-run win over the Rainiers. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth, Alex Castellanos hit a leadoff double, was sacrificed to third base by Tyler Greene and scored on Francoeur's ground ball hit in between the shortstop and third baseman.
Chris Smith had a sensational El Paso Chihuahuas debut, allowing just one run in six innings, while striking out eight. The former Major Leaguer with Boston and Milwaukee was signed as a minor league free agent this week by San Diego and assigned to El Paso. Smith did not factor in the decision after Tacoma scored five late runs off El Paso's bullpen to tie the game.
Castellanos went 3-for-5 with a double and a home run in the win. Cody Decker went 2-for-3 with his third home run in his last six games. Chihuahuas catcher Adam Moore had to leave the game in the first inning with an apparent leg injury. The Chihuahuas are now 11-3 against the Rainiers this season. The Chihuahuas have won five of their last six games.
