(Vero Beach, FL) - Daytona scored five runs in the first four innings and held on for a 5-4 victory at Holman Stadium Thursday night. Ryder Mathias had a bases-loaded, base-clearing double and the Dodger bullpen held Daytona scoreless over the final 5 2/3 innings. The series ends Friday night at 7:00 PM.

Dodgers starter Alberto Bastardo suffered through his second-shortest outing of the year. In his 3 1/3 innings, Daytona tallied five hits, five runs and five walks with three strikeouts.

The Cubs failed to score against him with the bases loaded in the first inning, but broke through in the second. With two outs and runners at second and third Jemel Spearman - who drove in the only run of the game Wednesday night - stroked a single to right to put Daytona ahead 2-0. Spearman ended the night 3-5.

In the fourth, Andy Lane bunted his way on base to start the inning and Matt Ciaramella followed with a walk. After a sacrifice, Lane scored on a wild pitch and Jonathan Mota doubled in Ciaramella. One out later Spearman struck again with a double to plate Mota for a 5-0 advantage.

The Dodgers answered in the bottom of the fourth. After an Anthony Raglani walk, Adolfo Gonzalez and Cole Bruce singled to load the bases. Mathias then delivered his double - a screaming liner into the left field corner. The only other run for the Dodgers came in the 8th and Adolfo Gonzalez doubled in Anthony Raglani.

Gonzalez now has multi-hit games in his last three starts. Raglani has tallied multiple hits in his last four games. Cole Bruce went 2-4 in his first start since Friday.
