Cubs beat Zephyrs

Chad Tracy drove in two pinch-hit runs as Iowa rallied in the sixth inning to top the New Orleans Zephyrs 10-4 in front of 8,998 fans at Principal Park Saturday night. The Cubs plated five runs and batted around as they broke up a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning. WIth one out, Brad Snyder walked and then stole second and third base. Welington Castillo, then drew another walk before Tracy stepped to the plate. Tracy laced the first pitch down the right field line, scoring Snyder and Castillo for a 3-1 Iowa lead. Jim Adduci drew the third walk of the inning and scored on Darwin Barney's single. Next batter Jason Dubois was hit by a pitch. The final run of the rally came on Bryan LaHair's single putting the Cubs ahead, 6-1. LaHair was 2-for-5 with three RBI. New Orleans put up a first inning run as Emilio Bomafacio led off the game with a triple. He scored on Logan Morrison's groundout to take an early 1-0 lead. The Zephyrs wouldn't score again until the seventh inning. Scott Cousins reached on an Iowa error and scored on Brad Davis' double. David doubled in another run in the ninth inning. He was 2-for-4 with two doubles. Leading 6-2, Iowa continued its scoring with a four-run eighth inning. Adduci and Barney hit back-to-back singles with no outs. LaHair drove in the duo with his 12th double of the year before Scales tripled, scoring LaHair for the 10-2 Iowa advantage. Adduci and Barney also picked up two hits in the win. The Zephyrs scored a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning for the 10-4 final. After Davis' second RBI double of the game, he was driven in on Bryan Peterson's single, but the rally was short-lived. Iowa's Mitch Atkins (4-2, 2.63) picked up the win, throwing six innings and allowing one run. Hunter Jones (0-5, 4.17) of New Orleans was tagged with the loss, allowing three runs on four hits in 5.1 innings of work. The Cubs and Zephyrs play game two of the series Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
