[DAYTONA BEACH, FL] The Daytona Cubs are proud to announce the return of Derek Ingram as the "Voice of the Cubs" in 2007. Three newcomers will join Ingram, the Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations for the upcoming All-Star season. Dan Watson and Matt Martinez join the Cubs as Co-Assistant Directors of Broadcasting for their first season in professional baseball. Jeanine Jiannetti has also been added as the Assistant Director of Media Relations.
A native of Bowling Green, Mo, Ingram, 25, returns to Daytona for his second season with the Cubs. He was selected to broadcast the 2006 Florida State League All-Star Game. "I am absolutely thrilled to return for another season with the Cubs," Ingram said. "Daytona has given me a home and there's not a better place to spend a season of baseball." Derek and his wife Katie are residents of Daytona Beach.
Watson, 22, is a 2006 graduate of Otterbein College where his experience is extensive with respect to collegiate sports. Watson was the sports director of his campus radio station where he called baseball, basketball and football games. He also called play-by-play for the Delaware Cows of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate Baseball League. Most recently, Watson covered the Ohio State Buckeye football and basketball teams for a radio station in Columbus.
Martinez, 24, is a 2006 graduate of San Francisco State University. At the University of San Francisco, Martinez was the lead broadcaster and webcaster for the volleyball team. He was also the lead anchor and head writer for the College Sports Report. Martinez hosted the Sacramento Film Festival for 2000 and 2001.
Jiannetti, 23, enters her third season in professional baseball and second in the Florida State League. She was part of the event production staff for the Tampa Yankees for the 2006 season and was a broadcasting/marketing intern with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2005. A 2005 graduate of the University of South Florida, Jiannetti recently worked for the athletic department, executing scoreboard production for football and basketball games. She was also a local producer for a sports radio station in Tampa Bay.
Cubs general manager Bill Papierniak is pleased with the broadcast outlook for 2007. "Derek led a good broadcasting team last season and with his new additions it should be another successful year on the radio side of things," Papierniak said.
