C's Snap Seven-Game Skid with Shutout Win over Spokane
June 30, 2019 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - Canadians RHP Gabriel Ponce went 3 2/3 innings of one-hit baseball and was followed by 5 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball from LHP Randy Pondler as Vancouver snapped a seven-game losing streak with a convincing 4-0 victory over Spokane on Saturday night.

Offensively, Canadians catcher Brett Wright opened the scoring in the bottom of the 4th inning when he tagged a pitch from RHP Teodoro Ortega into left field scoring SS Trevor Schwecke (single) giving Vancouver a one-run lead.

The bottom of the 7th inning is where the Canadians put it away plating three runs. Vancouver 2B Tanner Morris and 1B Yorman Rodriguez both had RBI doubles with Rodriguez scoring both CF Adrian Ramos and 2B Tanner Morris to help build a 4-0 lead. It was more than enough as Pondler snares his 2nd victory of the season while Ortega falls to 1-1.
Note: Canadians CF Dominic Abbadessa was lifted from Saturday's game in the bottom of the 5th after a collision with Spokane catcher Scott Kapers who was covering the throw at first base on a ground ball to shortstop. Abbadessa turned inward after the throw to first base missed the mark, but Kapers was covering the throw in case it missed the mark - which it did and the race to the bag was on with Kapers essentially blocking Abbadessa from reaching the bag. Abaddessa was replaced by OF Adrian Ramos for the remainder of the game.
With the win, Vancouver improves to 4-12 (.250) on the season while Spokane falls to 10-6 through sixteen Northwest League games.
Vancouver Canadians Baseball remains out at historic Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium through July 3rd as the C's host Spokane (June 30) and Hillsboro (July 1-3) with tickets available by calling 604.872.5232, online at canadiansbaseball.com or by visiting the Nat Bailey Stadium Box Office at 4601 Ontario Street, Vancouver, B.C.
