Rochester Knighthawks News Release
(Rochester, NY)... Crystal Sowden of Hagersville, Ontario, was named the winner of the Rochester Knighthawks' "Fan Photo of the Year" contest, sponsored by Bugaboo Creek Steak House. Sowden's photo with Knighthawk Shawn Evans received 1,400 votes to beat nine other entrees.
"This is as great as meeting Shawn Evans," said Crystal. "I can't wait to get home to tell my family I am going to win. Thank you. Thank you. Thank You. One word (sums this up): sweet!"
The winner was determined by fan voting, which began on May 27th and concluded on June 26th. Nearly 2,000 votes were registered during the month-long contest. The winning photo depicts Knighthawk Shawn Evans dropping off signed gloves and signing her jersey on March 14th. As the winner of the contest, Sowden wins a Knighthawks prize pack that includes a $50 gift certificate to Bugaboo Creek Steak House, an autographed lacrosse ball and two tickets to the 2010 home opener.
The second place prize goes to Mark Parrish, who submitted a shot of his son, Ryan, from the February 22nd Knighthawks-New York game. Ryan was dressed up as Luke Skywalker and had a blue lightsaber to celebrate the Knighthawks' Star Wars Night. The photo received 187 votes to earn the prize pack that includes a Knighthawks media guide, magazine and T-shirt signed by John Grant.
The Knighthawks recently concluded their 15th season in the National Lacrosse League with a trip to the Champion's Cup Division Semifinals. The playoff berth was the team's 14th in franchise history. Rochester is a two-time league champion, winning titles in 1997 and 2007.
