Dave Sturm Wins Bugaboo Creek Fan Photo of the Year Contest

(Rochester, NY)... Rochester native Dave Sturm was named the winner of the Rochester Americans' "Fan Photo of the Year" contest, sponsored by Bugaboo Creek Steak House. Sturm's photo of former Amerks forward Stefan Meyer received 386 votes and 55 percent of the fan voting to beat three other entrees.

"It was more of a popularity vote than a photo contest," said Sturm, a member of the Amerks Booster Club. "I woke up one morning and saw that I was only four votes ahead. I jumped on my computer and ‘facebooked' Meyer's girlfriend and sister and everyone else that I could. Hats off to runner-up Kelly Toombs, though! She gave me a run for the money. I don't like to lose, but if I do, I will bow out gracefully."

The winner was determined by fan voting, which began on May 27th and concluded on June 26th. Exactly 700 votes were registered during the month-long contest. The winning photo depicts an airborne Meyer attempting to reach for the puck and put it past Syracuse Crunch goaltender Ryan Munce. As the winner of the contest, Sturm wins an Amerks prize pack that includes a $50 gift certificate to Bugaboo Creek Steak House, an autographed team photo and two tickets to the 2009-10 home opener.

This is the second Amerks contest this season that Sturm has the claimed the grand prize. Earlier this season, Sturm was the lucky winner of a two-year lease for a new 2009 Honda Fit, courtesy of Dick Ide Pontiac/Honda in Penfield. Sturm selected the only key out of 20 identical keys that ultimately started the ignition of the car.

The second place prize goes to Kelly Tombs, who submitted a shot of Amerks rookies Shawn Matthias and Keaton Ellerby, donning the ‘80s retro look at the annual Season Ticket Holder Skate with the Players event held at The Blue Cross Arena back in November. The pair of first-year pros sported multi-color spandex with bright purple feather scarfs and afros to complete the ensemble. The photo received 268 votes to earn the prize pack that includes an Amerks media guide and magazine.
