Syracuse Crunch News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - After opening scoring in the second period, the Syracuse Crunch netted three goals in 2:06 in the third to power past the Binghamton Senators, 4-1, tonight at the War Memorial Arena.
Yanni Gourde put the Crunch on the board early in the second period. The Senators came back to tie it in the third, but Daniel Walcott, Gourde and Mathieu Brodeur combined to score three times in just over two minutes to secure the victory. Tonight's win advances Syracuse to 29-18-5-5 on the season and 3-2-0-1 in the 10-game season series.
Kristers Gudlevskis made 28 saves between the pipes for the Crunch. His counterpart, Chris Driedger, stopped 36-of-40. Syracuse was unable to convert on three power play opportunities and shutdown all five Binghamton man-advantages.
After a scoreless first period, the Crunch broke the stalemate 6:24 into the middle frame. Tye McGinn fired the puck into the zone for Cory Conacher to pick up in the right circle. He was unable to maintain control, but McGinn was there to chip the puck back into the slot for Gourde to redirect past Driedger.
The Senators finally solved Gudlevskis 1:52 into the third period. Casey Bailey came in from the left wing to one-time a rebound. Assists went to Patrick Sieloff and Chris Rumble.
Syracuse regained the lead with three quick goals. At 2:27, Erik Condra skated through traffic to fire from the high slot. His shot was stopped and the rebound kicked out for Walcott to send home from the left circle. Slater Koekkoek earned the secondary helper. Just 26 seconds later, Conacher forced a turnover in the neutral zone. Gourde picked up the loose puck and sent it top left corner from the right circle for his second of the night. Brodeur rounded out the scoring streak with a wrist shot from the high slot. Condra and Walcott both made it a multi-point with the helpers.
The Crunch and Senators will complete a home-and-home tomorrow in Binghamton at 5 p.m.
