Rochester, NY (March 21, 2012) - Crunch goaltender Iiro Tarkki blanked all five Rochester shooters for a 4-3 shootout win tonight at the Blue Cross Arena.
The win gave Tarkki his eighth consecutive win and the Crunch improve to 30-27-4-4 on the season.
Rochester took a 1-0 lead halfway through the first frame, thanks to a goal by Shaone Morrison.
Rochester left wing Colin Stuart threw the puck on net and Morrisonn was able to re-direct the puck past Crunch netminder Iiro Tarkki for the game's first score at the 9:27 mark of the period.
The Crunch responded just minutes later after a tripping penalty to Rochester's Mark Voakes gave the Crunch the game's first power play. Luca Caputi scored off a pass from Dan Sexton, who was behind the net of Rochester goaltender David Leggio, at the 11:26 mark of the first period.
Nick Crawford gave Rochester a 2-1 lead with 12:52 to play in the second stanza. Crawford beat Tarkki with a wrist-shot off the crossbar. The Americans extended their lead to 3-1 with a slap shot from Brayden McNabb at the 13:17 mark.
Crunch defenseman Kyle Cumiskey cut the Rochester lead to one with a wrist shot that floated past a screened Leggio to make it 3-2 with 32 seconds remaining in the period. Cumiskey's goal was assisted by Peter Holland and J.F. Jacques.
Holland tied the game from the far side of a two-on-one after taking a pass from Jacques at the 11:12 mark of the third period, the score lasted to the end of regulation, forcing overtime.
Neither team could score in the extra session sending the game to a shootout. Dan Sexton was the only scorer in tiebreaker.
