Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS, Ohio (Tuesday, April 26) â Columbus Crew General Manager Mark McCullers and Crew Head Coach Greg Andrulis announced today that The Crew has acquired Trinidad & Tobago forward Cornell Glen from FC Dallas in exchange for its natural second round pick in the 2006 SuperDraft and a 2005 Youth International slot.
To clear roster space for Glen, Columbus waived veteran forward Dante Washington.
Glen will fill a senior international spot on The Crew roster and is expected to join the team on Wednesday for practice. The 24-year-old Glen is in his second MLS season after spending the 2004 season with the MetroStars. He scored six goals and had two assists in 18 games last year. He also appeared in two playoff games for the MetroStars last year, starting one. He did not appear in any games for Dallas this season.
The Port of Spain, Trinidad native spent the 2002-2003 with CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh of the Trinidad and Tobago First Division. The 5-9, 160-pound forward has also scored one goal with the Trinidad and Tobago National Team.
Washington spent a part of nine seasons in MLS and was in his third stint with The Crew. His all-time MLS totals, which include four seasons in Dallas (1996-1999), are 52 goals and 29 assists (133 points) in 161 games played (111 starts). He also totaled five goals and one assist in the playoffs.
"I want to thank Dante for his tremendous professionalism and commitment to the Columbus Crew," said Andrulis. "He is a first class individual who has had a positive effect on our team and our community. We are excited about the addition of Cornell Glen. Cornell is one of the rising young stars in the CONCACAF region. He is a dynamic forward who can change a game. We look forward to having another quality forward on our team."
