Rome Emperors News Release
Rome, GA -A rambunctious crowd of 4,368 could not help the Rome Braves as they fell to the Hickory Crawdads 8-5 Saturday night at State Mutual Stadium.
The Braves started the scoring in the bottom of the second inning as Cody Clark slapped a two strike single to right field and trotted home after Manny Rodriguez crushed his third home run of the year giving the Braves an early 2-0 lead. Hickory would answer back in the top of the fourth as Mike McCuistion led off the inning with a single and moved to third after Brad Corley shot a ground rule double over the center field wall. The Crawdads would then get on the board as Jason Delaney and Toney Mansolino delivered consecutive RBI singles that plated McCuistion and Corley tying the game at two. Hickory would then take the lead as Euvi Solano hit into a fielder's choice that scored Delaney and Cameron Blair delivered an RBI groundout that allowed Mansolino to cross the plate giving the Crawdads a 4-2 lead. . Hickory would continue to tack on to their lead with single runs in the fifth, sixth, and eighth innings making the score 7-2. Manny Rodriguez tried his best to get Rome back into the game in the bottom of the eighth as he blasted a tape measure shot (4) for his second two run home run of the game cutting Rome's deficit to 7-4, but the effort was not enough as both teams added runs in their respective halves of the ninth inning giving Hickory the 8-5 victory.
Rome starter Beau Jones (4-3) was saddled with the loss for the Braves tossing six and two third innings while walking four and allowing five earned runs. Crawdads starter Joe Bauserman (6-8) picked up the victory throwing six innings while striking out six and allowing two earned runs.
