Crawdads bust out bats, beat Gnats 13-6

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Hickory Crawdads had 19 hits and scored 13 runs as they took the series opener from the Gnats 13-6 on Lou Brissie Night at Historic Grayson Stadium.

Hickory jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the fourth when Austin McClune hit a three-run shot to left of Gnats starter Angel Calero (0-4).

Savannah fought back and pulled within a run in the sixth when they scored three times on three Hickory errors and run-scoring singles from Daniel Stegall and Michael Parker.

Hickory scored six runs after the sixth inning to end Savannah's comeback hopes.

Seven Crawdads had at least two hits with Marcus Davis' 4 hits leading the way. Jose de los Santos and Miles Durham had 3 hits apiece.

For Savannah, Matt Bouchard had a pair of doubles and Joaquin Rodriguez and Daniel Stegall each added two hits. Francisco Pena hit a solo-homer in the fourth to extend his hitting streak to eight games.

Michael Felix (2-1) earned the win, allowing 2 hits in 3.0 scoreless innings. Calero took the loss, surrendering 5 unearned runs on six hits in 3.2 innings.

Prior to the game, the Gnats retired legend Lou Brissie's No. 3 Savannah Indians jersey.

The Sand Gnats continue this 10-game homestand at 7 p.m. on Wednesday when Mike Antonini (1-1, 3.80) takes the hill for Savannah while Brad Clapp (NR) starts for the Crawdads.
