Hickory Crawdads News Release

HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Hickory Crawdads registered their seventh shutout of the season for their third straight win, 6-0, against the Hagerstown Suns before 901 fans at Municipal Stadium on Monday afternoon. RHP Jake Brigham and LHP Martin Perez combined for 17 strikeouts in the shutout win.

Both starters, Brigham for Hickory and RHP Paul Demny for Hagerstown, got off to strong starts in the ballgame, keeping it scoreless through the first four innings. However, the Crawdads offense broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning. DH Eric Fry drew a one-out walk to get on board and scored later in the inning on a two-out RBI double by SS Leury Garcia to put the Crawdads in the 1-0 lead.

Hickory added to the lead with a tally in the top of the seventh, as 3B Matt West, Fry and C Zach Zaneski strung together three consecutive singles. Zaneski's knock brought in West and made it 2-0.

The Crawdads then blew the game open, 6-0, with four runs on five hits in the top of the ninth. Bianucci led off with a single, moved to second on a balk and scored on an RBI base hit from 1B Erik Morrison. Morrison then moved to third on a single by Fry, before Garcia drove Morrison in later in the inning with a two-out RBI single. Both Fry and Garcia then scored on a two-run double by CF David Paisano, capping the four-run frame to put the Crawdads ahead by six.

Perez, who took over to start the sixth inning, then nailed down the win, escaping a bases-loaded situation by dealing a game-ending strikeout, his ninth of the game, to 3B Nick Arata. Brigham, who struck out a season-high eight through five scoreless frames, earned the win, while Perez recorded his first save of the season, also posting a season high in strikeouts with the nine k's. The Crawdads have won their last three games, taking the series in Hagerstown, three-games-to-one.
