Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

SALISBURY, MD - The Intimidators dropped their eighth straight game away from Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium on Monday night, falling 4-3 to the Delmarva Shorebirds at Perdue Stadium.

Rehabbing Major Leaguer Luke Scott went 2-for-2 with a home run and a walk, helping the Shorebirds to their sixth straight win while handing the Intimidators their fifth consecutive loss.

Scott took Kannapolis starter Charlie Leesman deep in the first inning to give the Shorebirds (23-18) an early 1-0 lead. Leesman (4-3) gave up two runs over six innings of work, walking four and striking out five.

Kannapolis (20-24) nearly rallied in the top of the ninth inning, but came up one hit and one run short. The Intimidators got two runs in the frame thanks to back-to-back pinch hits from John Curtis and Seth Loman and and an RBI single from Eduardo Escobar, but closer Brandon Cooney was able to get Justin Greene to fly out to end the game. Cooney picked up his seventh save of the season.

The Shorebirds had extended their lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the eighth without a hit. Drew O'Neil walked a batter with the bases loaded, before hitting another to extend the Shorebirds lead to three.

Kannapolis managed just two hits over the first eight innings against starter Nathan Moreau and a pair of relievers. Moreau went 4 2/3 innings, but did not factor in the decision despite giving up just one run on one hit.

Raul Rivero (4-0) earned the victory in relief.
