
Crabs Pinch Bluefish

(Bridgeport, Conn. - August 17, 2010) - The Bridgeport Bluefish fell to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 9-2 Tuesday night at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
The Blue Crabs sent a message to Bridgeport in the first frame with seven runs on nine hits. Shaun Cumberland started the rally with a single to right, stole second and continued to third on an infield single hit by Casey Benjamin. With one out, Patrick Osborn drilled a double to the gap in left field to bring home Cumberland and Benjamin. Christian Colonel collected a base hit to score Osborn, and with two away Jeremy Owens drilled a two-run homer over the center field wall. Ben Harrison smacked a home run of his own to make the score 6-0, and Christian Lopez added to the hits column with a single to center. Cumberland followed with his second base-hit of the inning before Lopez marked the final run of the frame on a base hit from Benjamin.
Bridgeport put their first run on the board in the fifth. Brandon Chaves put himself in scoring position with a leadoff double, and after Tike Redman advanced Chaves to third with a fly ball, Danny Putnam allowed Chaves to tag-up and score with a sacrifice fly.
Despite Bridgeport's effort to push a second run across in the seventh, the Bluefish could not come back for the win. The inning began with a Colin Roberson double, and with one out Redman hit his second sacrifice fly of the night to bring home Roberson from third.
Paul Oseguera (4-4) took the tough loss for the 'Fish, giving up eight runs on 13 hits while striking out three through three and two-thirds innings of work. Jorge Perez worked through the next three and one-third frames for Bridgeport, allowing one run on two hits, with a walk and four strikeouts.
Southern Maryland starter Craig Anderson (9-2) earned the win, surrendering two runs on eight hits over seven innings, with five strikeouts.
The Bluefish and Blue Crabs will square off in game two of the three game series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. The Ballpark at Harbor Yard gates open at 6:05 a.m. and everyone in attendance will be able to experience "Winning Inning Wednesday" and have the chance to take home $10,000.
