
Coyotes Sign Goncharov To Entry Level Contract

GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have signed defenseman Maxim Goncharov to an entry level contract. As per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Goncharov, 20, appeared in 51 games this season for CSKA Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), recording 4-13-17 with 52 penalty minutes (PIM) and a +5 rating to rank 3rd on his team in scoring among defensemen. He also scored a goal while appearing in three postseason contests.
In 2008-09, Goncharov registered 7-8-15 and 50 PIM in 47 games for CSKA Moscow. He also represented Russia at the 2009 World Junior Championship, helping his team to the bronze medal by recording 5-1-6 in seven games to lead the tournament in goals by a defenseman. His international experience also includes a gold medal in the 2007 Under-18 World Junior Championship.
Goncharov was selected by the Coyotes in the fifth round (123rd overall) of the 2007 Entry Draft.
