Edinburg Roadrunners News Release

AMARILLO, Texas- The Edinburg Coyotes' quest for a championship is now over after they lost 5-4 to the Amarillo Dillas Wednesday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa. Miguel Martinez pitched well through most of the game but he did not factor in the decision. He pitched six innings allowing three runs on four hits.

The Coyotes struggled to get into an offensive rhythm in game one, but in game two, they got things started early. In the top of the first inning, Angelo Fermin led off with a single. Daryl Jones then hit an RBI double into the left field gap that allowed Fermin to score from first. Eric Gonzalez then followed with an RBI single that scored Jones from second for a 2-0 lead. But the Coyotes were not done in the first inning, Mayobanex Santana then hit an RBI double to the left field corner that score Gonzalez from second which extended the lead to 3-0. Amado German then followed with another RBI double that scored Santana for a 4-0 advantage.

The Dillas picked up one run without getting a hit in the bottom of the third inning when Josh Ashton scored on a wild pitch by Martinez which made the score 4-1. But the Dillas kept things rolling in the bottom of the fourth inning. After back-to-back walks to Justin Wenger and Ashton, Jonathan Reynoso hit a two-run triple into the left field corner which made the score 4-3.

The Dillas offense had plenty of opportunities to tie the game but could not answer until the bottom of the eighth inning. Justin Wenger started the inning with a walk and then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Then Reynoso hit a single to left field that put runners on the corners. Keith Brachold then hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game at four. With Reynoso on second, Schneidmiler hit an RBI single to center field which gave the Dillas a 5-4 lead. Julio Castro who came in the bottom of the eighth inning picked up the loss after giving up the two runs in only 2/3 of the inning. The Coyotes had an opportunity to tie the game in the top of the ninth inning where they had runners on the corners with two outs but Carl Johnson struck out to end the game with a final score of 5-4.

The Championship series will be Alexandria against Amarillo starting tomorrow night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
