Edinburg Roadrunners News Release
AMARILLO, Texas-The Edinburg Coyotes dropped game one of the ULB Playoffs with an 11-1 loss to the Amarillo Dillas. The Coyotes' offense struggled to get into a rhythm all game long. Eric Montoya (0-1) struggled as he only lasted three and 1/3 innings allowing eight runs on four hits. Montoya looked strong through the first two innings but the Dillas just had the better night. The Dillas struck first in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single by Gary Schneidmiller which scored Josh Ashton from third for a 1-0 lead.
The Dillas then extended their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when they sent 14 hitters to the plate. They scored eight runs on six hits which made the score 9-0. Montoya allowed four walks in the inning which brought in two runs in the inning for the Dillas.
The Dillas added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jonathan Reynoso came in to score on a ground ball that should have ended the inning but an error by Coyotes' shortstop Angelo Fermin allowed the inning to continue. Then A.J. Johnson hit an RBI double that scored Danny Bravo from second which made the score 11-0. In the top of the seventh inning, the Coyotes scored a run without recording a hit. Daryl Jones started the inning with a walk then moved to second on an error by Dillas' pitcher Ronald Lowe. Then Mayobanex Santana reached on a throwing error by Bravo at shortstop which allowed Jones to score from second base and that made the score 11-1.
The Coyotes broke up the no-hitter in the top of the eighth inning when Carl Johnson recorded his first hit as a Coyote. The Coyotes and Dillas will continue their playoff series with game two on Wednesday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa with the first pitch scheduled at 7:05 p.m. The Coyotes will place their hopes on Miguel Martinez who will face Taylor Allen in a must win situation.
