Coyotes Assign Two Forward to Springfield

Springfield, MA – The Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League (AHL) today announced that left wings Darren McLachlan and Ladislav Kouba have been assigned to the club by the Phoenix Coyotes.

McLachlan, 20, was acquired by Phoenix from the Boston Bruins in exchange for a 2004 fifth round draft choice on May 31st and was subsequently signed to a multi-year contract. The 6'1", 220-pound forward was selected by Boston in the third round (77th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. Last season, McLachlan registered 60 points (17g, 43a) and 195 penalty minutes (PIM) in 66 contests with Seattle of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The Peniction, British Columbia native compiled 117 points (47g, 70a) and 691 PIM in 215 games during his WHL career with Seattle.

Kouba, 20, was a seventh-round selection (#216 overall) of Phoenix in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. The 6'2", 210-pound native of Vimperk, Czech Republic posted 40 points (12g, 28a) and 48 PIM in 68 contests for Red Deer of the WHL last season. The left wing also notched 11 points (5g, 6a) in 23 playoff games as Red Deer advanced to the WHL's President's Cup Finals.

McLachlan and Kouba were each members of the Coyotes' squad which captured a four-team rookie tournament with a 3-1 Finals win over the Los Angeles Kings in El Segundo, California last Monday.

Five other players were reassigned by Phoenix to their respective junior clubs. The Coyotes now have 46 players on their 2003 veterans training camp roster including 6 goaltenders, 14 defensemen and 26 forwards.
