
Capitals Assign Four To Pirates

PORTLAND, ME - The Washington Capitals, the National Hockey League affiliate of the Portland Pirates, on Monday assigned five players from training camp as part of the team's first set of roster moves, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced. Four of those players are headed to Portland.
Forwards Garret Stroshein and Roman Tvrdon and defensemen Matt Libby and Dwayne Zinger were all assigned to the Pirates. Forward Jevon Desautels was assigned to the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League.
The team's current training camp roster now stands at 46 players, including 27 forwards, 13 defensemen and six goaltenders.
The Capitals continue their 2003 training camp, presented by World Wide Technology, at Piney Orchard Ice Arena in Odenton, Maryland, and will play their annual Black & White game at Piney Orchard Ice Arena September 17 at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free.
Washington starts its exhibition season September 18 at Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania against the Pittsburgh Penguins at 7:00 p.m. The Caps will be in Portland on Saturday, September 27 to host the Penguins at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Game time is 7:00 p.m. Tickets are now on sale at the Civic Center box office and all Ticketmaster outlets. The Pirates begin the 2003-2004 American Hockey League season on Friday, October 10 when they visit the Lowell Lock Monsters at 7:00 p.m. The Pirates open the home half of their schedule on Friday, October 17th when they host the Hartford Wolf Pack at the Civic Center at 7:05 p.m. As part of Opening Night festivities, Rivalries, Margaritas and the Brian Boru will be hosting a pre-game block party from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. with drink specials, giveaways and mascot appearances. The Pirates will be back on Civic Center ice on Saturday, October 18th when they host the Monarchs at 7:05 p.m. The first 3,000 fans will receive a Pirates' magnetic schedule courtesy of Paul G.
