
Coyotes and Blitz Renew the "Battle of Highway 99"

(Fresno, CA) - The 2-0 Central Valley Coyotes look to start the season 3-0 for the first time since coming to the central valley in 2004. They look to do this as they renew the "Battle of Highway 99" with the 1-1 Bakersfield Blitz. Game time is 7:15 PM on Saturday April 15th at Selland Arena.
The Blitz will be looking to avenge last Saturday's tough loss to the Spokane Shock in the final minute of the game and also avenge last season's 4 game series sweep by the Coyotes. The Coyotes are coming off a 63-34 win over the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings last week and a 65-34 win over the Rio Grande Valley Dorados in week one.
The Coyotes offense that is lead first year starting Quarterback Scott Rislov is ranked number one in team scoring offense (128 points), pass completion percentage (75.8), and second by only one touchdown in touchdowns scored with 18. Rislov has thrown for 14 touchdowns and no interception with 47 completions on 62 attempts in the first two games of the season. LaMonte Jones has been the recipient of six of Rislov touchdowns, with four other receivers sharing the remaining eight. Jones is averaging 12.6 yards per game and has 177 receiving yards and also has one rushing touchdown.
Coyotes defense not to be out done is ranked number one in total defense (183.5 yards), pass defense (178.0 yards), and pass defense rating (66.4). The Coyote defense is anchored by a front line of James Landers, Doug Langenfeld, Donyell Booker, and DB Wes Borba and Daniel Jones. The Coyotes secondary that has taken 5 interceptions from opposing offenses, D. Jones taking 2 of them last week against the Battle Wings.
The Blitz on the other hand have played strong with mixed results under there new Head Coach Gary Compton. The Blitz won their first game of the season against the Everett Hawks in the last two minutes of the game and than turned around last week and lost the game in the final minute to Spokane.
A win by the Coyotes will put them 3-0 for the season for the first time since becoming the Central Valley Coyotes, and will keep them in first place. The Coyotes are currently tied for first with Spokane at 2-0. Bakersfield is looking to get back on the right track and stay close to first.
