New York Dragons News Release

The Arena Football League free agent signing period began today and the New York Dragons have made their first transaction after re-signing OL/DL Delbert Cowsette to a two-year deal.

Cowsette's 2006 season with the Dragons marked his rookie season in the AFL. He finished the season receiving all-rookie honors after recording 15.5 tackles, five sacks for 32 yards, two fumble recoveries, three forced fumbles, two pass breakups and three quarterback hurries. On offense he recorded two receptions for seven yards.

"I'm excited to come back and finish what we started last year and get back in the march," said Cowsette. "The new rule change will allow us to play our true position and I'm just excited to play some football."

Before playing in the AFL, Cowsette graduated from the University of Maryland where he finished his career recording 280.0 tackles, 13 sacks and 31 tackles for loss. He then went on to play three seasons in the NFL with the Washington Redskins (2000-2002) and one season with NFL Europe (2005). He spent this past offseason at training camp with the Chicago Bears.

Dragons head coach Weylan Harding expressed his enthusiasm in having Cowsette back on the squad.

"Delbert was a priority going into the offseason," said Harding. "I believe he represents the new era as far as linemen are concerned for New York. He should usher in a new wave and set the standard and we are very glad to have him back. He is just as good of a person as he is a player!"

Cowsette marks the 17th roster spot of the 37 that AFL teams are permitted to bring to training camp. For the complete Dragons roster click below:
