Carolina Courage News Release
Eight (8) regular season games featuring the WUSA's Carolina Courage are set for live telecast on Fox Sports Net this summer. The telecasts air ONLY within the states of North Carolina and South Carolina, and two of the games will air ONLY in the eastern half of North Carolina (see schedule below). The first Courage telecast is Saturday, 6/1, when Carolina hosts the New York Power (7 p.m. EDT) at SAS Stadium in Cary, N.C. (suburban Raleigh).
The second-year WUSA is comprised of eight teams - Carolina, Atlanta Beat, Boston Breakers, New York Power, Philadelphia Charge, San Diego Spirit, San Jose CyberRays and Washington Freedom.
Carolina's SAS Stadium is the WUSA's first-ever soccer-specific facility and is the centerpiece of a seven-field, 150-acre soccer complex. The 7,000-seat stadium also served as a practice facility for the U.S. Men's National Soccer Team as it prepared for 2002 FIFA World Cup play.
Dean Linke calls the Courage play-by-play for Fox Sports Net, with Bill Palladino providing analysis and Drew Smith reporting from the field. Linke is a former Fox Sports Net Rocky Mountain announcer for the Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids games and is president of VilCom Network, a Chapel Hill-based marketing company. Palladino is the longtime assistant women's soccer coach for the 17-time NCAA champion North Carolina women's soccer program. Smith is sports director at WTVD-TV (ABC affiliate in the Raleigh-Durham-Fayetteville market) and is active in area youth soccer.
