WUSA Rosters to Add Reserve Player

May 29, 2002 - Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) News Release

ATLANTA (Wednesday, May 29, 2002) - The Women's United Soccer Association announced today the addition of a third reserve spot to each team's Active Roster.

With the addition of the third spot, the following players have been signed to reserve contracts; Andrea Alfiler (Philadelphia Charge), Anne Remy (Atlanta), Nicole Roberts (Carolina Courage) and Bonnie Young (New York Power).

Under the new guidelines, a team may now carry a maximum of 18 active players plus three reserve players. One of the three reserves must be a goalkeeper.

All replacement players for a team's active list must come from the reserve players. A reserve player may be called up to the active list, if a team goes below 18 players on their active list. If a team's active list, including the three reserve players, goes below 16, they may request a fourth reserve (temporary call up). The minimum call-up for a fourth reserve player is three days. The temporary reserve contract is terminated when the team returns to a 16-player active list. A team may also request a fourth reserve in the case of a season-ending injury to a member of the 18-player active list.

Featuring the best women's soccer players in the world, WUSA athletes include Mia Hamm, Brandi Chastain, Tiffeny Milbrett, Briana Scurry, Julie Foudy and dozens of international stars. The eight WUSA teams are the Atlanta Beat, Boston Breakers, Carolina Courage, New York Power, Philadelphia Charge, San Diego Spirit, San Jose CyberRays and the Washington Freedom.
