Kamloops, BC- The Prince George Cougars dropped their final game of the 2020-21 WHL RE/MAX Hub Centres season, losing 4-0 to the Kamloops Blazers Wednesday at the Sandman Centre.
Josh Pillar, Logan Bairos, Ethan Brandwood, and Orrin Centazzo scored for the Blazers in the win, as they were presented with the RE/MAX Cup as B.C. Division championships. Blazers' goaltender Dylan Garand stopped 28 shots for his third shutout.
Taylor Gauthier was tagged with the loss as he kicked-out 34 of 38 shots. For the season, Gauthier posted a 7-8-0-0 record, with a 2.74 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage. He had one shutout. He also was twice named the WHL Goaltender of the Week.
The power-play went 0-2 and the penalty-kill was 1-1. Wednesday marked the third time the Cougars were shutout in 22 games.
The Cougars finished fourth in the B.C. Division with a 9-10-2-1 record. They were 1-5-0-0 in the six-game seasonal series against the Blazers.
Wednesday was captain Jack Sander's final game in the Western Hockey League (WHL). In 22 games, the Beaumont, AB product had nine points (1g, 8a). In 203 career regular season games, that spanned four seasons, the 21-year-old compiled 47 points (9g, 38a) to go along with 50 penalty-minutes. The entire Cougars organization congratulates Jack on his WHL career and wishes all the best in his future hockey endeavors.
