Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars ended their 2008 season Friday night, losing, 9-6, to the Burlington Bees at Elfstrom Stadium and getting swept in their opening round best-of-three playoff series. The Cougars never led in the game, had only one extra-base hit and couldn't overcome four errors.

Cougars starter Scott Hodsdon gave up five runs -- three earned -- on five hits in 3 2/3 innings. He gave three in the third, and after the Cougars climbed back in the bottom half on a wild pitch and a Greg Dowling single, the Bees got two more in the fourth for a 5-2 score. Burlington added one against Lance Sewell in the seventh to make it 6-2.

The Cougars grabbed two runs in the seventh on a Todd Johnson bases-loaded two-run single, but the Bees scored three in the top of the eighth against Leonardo Espinal. Jason Christian and Adam Klein each posted one RBI in the bottom of the eighth to account for the 9-6 final. Alex Caldera (1-0) got the win over Hodsdon (0-1), and Brandon Sisk saved his second game of the series.

The Cougars, who were in the playoffs for the 10th time in their 18-year history, now look toward Opening Day 2009.
