Kane County Cougars News Release
Geneva, IL - The Kane County Cougars are headed to a series-deciding Game 3 with the Swing of the Quad Cities after an 11-6 loss on Thursday night at Elfstrom Stadium in Game 2 of the best-of-three quarterfinal round showdown. The Cougars took the opener in Davenport but fell behind in the third inning Thursday and never recovered.
The two teams combined for 33 hits, and the Swing got six in the third inning and five runs against Cougars starter Kenny Durost to chase the right-hander from the game. Joel Posey entered and allowed a fifth-inning tally to make it 6-0. T.J. Franco surrendered a run in the sixth for a 7-0 score before the Cougars broke through against left-hander Adam Daniels. Raul Padron smacked one of his four hits to drive in a run, and Steve Kleen's sacrifice fly made it 7-2.
Franco gave up two more runs in the eighth, and Randy Rapp allowed a pair in the ninth for an 11-2 game. The Cougars roared back in the bottom of the ninth against Jason Cairns and Danny Borne, as Anthony Recker smashed a three-run homer, and Kleen had a run-scoring grounder, but the rally eventually fell short.
Daniels (1-0) got the win, and Durost (0-1) took the loss. The Cougars (1-1) and Swing (1-1) play Friday night at Elfstrom Stadium at 7 CT for the right to continue in the post-season against either Peoria or Beloit. Joe Piekarz (8-7, 3.26) is scheduled to face Adam Ottavino (2-3, 3.44).
