Cougars Bite Bees Late

(Geneva-IL)- Bees' starter Jermey Rhoades pitched seven no hit innings before the Kane County Cougars broke through for three runs in the eighth inning as the Bees lost game three of the series, 3-1 on Wednesday night.

The Bees broke through for their only run of the game in the second inning. Raul Linares led off the frame with a walk and stole second base. After a strikeout, Erick Salcedo drew a walk, placing runners at first and second. While Michael Hermosillo was at the plate, Kane County catcher, Stryker Trahan, was charged with a passed ball, moving Linares to third and Salcedo to second. Hermosillo grounded out, scoring Linares, putting the Bees on top 1-0.

After Stryker Trahan reached base on a fielding error in the second inning, Jeremy Rhoades went on to retire 11 Cougar batters in a row. With one out in the sixth inning, Colin Bray worked a walk, becoming just the third Cougar hitter to reach base. Rhoades was able to get the next hitter, Ryan Gebhardt to ground into an inning ending double play, keeping Kane County off the scoreboard and out of the hit colum.

Rhoades took a no hitter into the eighth inning with the Bees leading 1-0. Joe Munoz led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a double off the left center field wall, breaking up the no hitter. Rhoades came back to get Stryker Trahan to pop out in foul ground for the first out of the inning. The next hitter, Fernery Ozuna, shot a single to right, scoring Munoz, tying the game one. After a stolen base, Ozuna moved to third on a wild pitch with Victor Reyes at the plate. Reyes gave the Cougars tohe lead at 2-1 with a single to right field. Kane County added their final run later in the inning on a two out single to right from Ryan Gebhardt, making the score 3-1.

The Bees' bats stayed quiet in the ninth inning, going down in order, ending the game with just two hits in a 3-1 loss to the Kane County Cougars. Reliever Cody Geyer (1-0) earned the win for Kane County. Jermey Rhoades (3-1) was charged with the loss despite working 7.1 innings, allowing three runs on just three hits. Zac Curtis earned the save for the Cougars, thowing a perfect ninth inning. The Bees and the Cougars wrap up the series tomorrow night at 6:30. Justin Anderson starts for the Bees against Brad Keller for Kane County.
