
Cougars Annouce 2007 Season Schedule

(Stockton, Calif., August 23, 2007) - The California Cougars announced that the team will open the 2007-08 Major Indoor Soccer League season Saturday, October 27th at 5:00 PST in Chicago against the Storm, with the home opener in the Stockton Arena against La Raza De Monterrey set for Saturday November 10 at 7:15PM PST. The MISL has expanded to nine teams for the 2007-08 season adding the New Jersey Ironmen, Orlando Sharks, and La Raza De Monterrey. The league will utilize a single table for standings, with six of the nine teams advancing to the playoffs leading up to the championship game which will be held in Milwaukee at the US Cellular Arena on Saturday April 26th.The Cougars are scheduled to play 30 games this season; 15 at home and 15 on the road. In addition, the Cougars are proud to welcome back the Stars of Mexico, featuring Luis "El Matador" Hernandez and Marco Antonio "Chima" Ruiz for a special exhibition match on Saturday September 29 at 7:15PM PST. Last year's event was the best attended event in Cougars history, with 8,052 fans in attendance. Tickets are selling fast for this exhibition, which is expected to sell out. Season highlights include two contests in Stockton against the 2007 MISL Champion Philadelphia Kixx. The Kixx will make their first stop in Stockton on Friday, November 30 at 7:15PM. There will also be two visits by the New Jersey Ironmen, featuring former US World Cup veteran and 2000 MLS MVP goalkeeper Tony Meola, the first scheduled for Sunday December 30 at 7:15PM. League MVP Jamar Beasley and the Detroit Ignition also make two visits to Stockton, the first scheduled for Saturday November 17th at 7:15PM.
The Cougars will play seven home games on Saturday nights, seven on Sunday nights and one game on Friday night. All of the Cougars Friday and Saturday home games will be played at 7:15 pm. Sunday games kickoff at 6:15 pm.
The California Cougars organization prides itself on providing affordable family entertainment; fans are treated to various promotional items throughout the season including plans for team posters, kid's backpacks, sports bottles, Antonio Sutton bobble head dolls, and trading card nights throughout the season.
The season marks the first full season for the Cougars under the leadership of head coach Bernie Lilavois and new assistant coach Antonio Sutton. Several veteran players are expected to return to action for the Cougars in 07-08, including leading scorer Enrique Tovar, and 2005-06 MISL Rookie of the year Vicente Figueroa. In addition, the Cougars are proud to welcome Sanaldo, one of the top goal keepers in the league to the nets for the 07-08 season.

The California Cougars are a member of the Major Indoor Soccer League
(MISL), a single-entity organization that features a coast-to-coast
presence across the United States and Mexico, and top soccer talent
representing players from 31 different countries. Announced on February
28, 2004, the Cougars made their competitive debut in November, 2005, with
the beginning of their first 30-game regular season. Located in Stockton,
California, the California Cougars play their home games at the
state-of-the-art Stockton Arena, an integral piece to the city's
developing waterfront district. Stockton Arena opened to the public in

The Major Indoor Soccer League is a single-entity organization with a
