Columbus Cottonmouths News Release

COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Columbus Cottonmouths saw their road losing streak fall by the wayside this past Friday night in Fayetteville as the Snakes atoned for a 6-4 loss to the hometown FireAntz the previous Friday with a 3-2 victory. The schedule is much heavier for the upcoming week with three games in three nights against the league's top two teams. On Thursday, the Cottonmouths will make their second trip of the season to Huntsville's Von Braun Center for a matchup against the league-leading Huntsville Havoc. Friday and Saturday features a pair of back-to-back home contests as Columbus entertains the second-place Knoxville Ice Bears at the Snake Pit. All three games will be broadcast on B2 Networks with both a video and audio feed, with a nominal fee for each game. A free audio-only broadcast of the game is also available. Details can be found at www.cottonmouths.com.

UPCOMING GAMES AND PROMOTIONS

Thursday, December 10 - Columbus at Huntsville, 8:35 PM EST (Season Series vs. HSV: 0-2-0)

The Cottonmouths take a trip to northern Alabama on Thursday for a game against the rival Huntsville Havoc. The two teams have played once in each other's home arena with the Havoc emerging victorious each time. Huntsville defeated the Snakes 5-2 in the last meeting between the two teams on November 21 at the Columbus Civic Center. At 9-2-2, the Havoc are tops in the SPHL and have played the fewest games in the league so far, having played one fewer game than the Cottonmouths and at least two fewer games than the other five SPHL teams.

Friday/Saturday, December 11/12 - Knoxville at Columbus, 7:30 PM EST (both nights)

(Season Series vs. KNX: 2-0-0)

The Cottonmouths entertain the Knoxville Ice Bears for a pair of games in the Snake Pit this Friday and Saturday night. The Ice Bears are currently in second place in the SPHL, two points ahead of the Snakes, but have played one more game than Columbus. Columbus defeated Knoxville by 4-3 and 2-1 counts in consecutive games played in the Snake Pit on October 30 and 31, the only two meetings of the season between the two teams. Knoxville's home rink is the only one in the league the Cottonmouths have yet to visit this season, with the Snakes not scheduled to play in Tennessee until Sunday, December 27.

PROMOTIONS: Toy Drive Friday and Saturday; 'Saves to Save' Promotion-the number of goals allowed by the Snakes this weekend will determine the price to the Dec. 22 game.

COTTONMOUTHS WEEK IN REVIEW

Friday, December 4 - Columbus 3 at Fayetteville 2 (Attendance: 3,029)

The Cottonmouths picked up just their second win of the season away from the Snake Pit on Friday night, snapping a three-game road losing skid with a 3-2 win in Fayetteville over the FireAntz. Jeff Martens scored a pair of goals for the Snakes while Levi Lind scored the first goal of the contest for Columbus. Snakes netminder Ian Vigier once again appeared destined for his first shutout of the season, but Steve Cooke scored for Fayetteville with 82 seconds left in the contest to spoil Vigier's bid for the goose egg. It is the second start of his past three where Vigier has not allowed a goal in the first or second period and the fifth time he has allowed two or fewer goals this season in eight games. He would go on to stop 42 of 44 in net for Columbus, while Guy St. Vincent, the SPHL's leader in shutouts with two, made 30 saves on 32 shots in net for the FireAntz. Columbus was 1 for 6 on the power play while Fayetteville was 1 for 10.

THREE STARS OF THE WEEK

1. G Ian Vigier - Vigier played 58:38 of shutout hockey in Friday's win over Fayetteville before allowing two goals, one of which was aided by a late power play.

2. F Jeff Martens - Martens' two-goal effort helped the Snakes in Friday's win.

3. F Levi Lind - Lind scored the first goal of the contest on Friday and assisted on Jeff Martens's empty-netter in the game's final minute to provide the needed insurance for the win.
