Cottonmouths Shake up Roster

Columbus, Ga. - Oct. 30, 2013 - The Columbus Cottonmouths made several moves today as a result of both injury and a need to improve after the opening weekend left them without a win at 0-2.

The first move of the day was made when rookie forward Seth Ronsberg was placed on the 30-Day IR with a lower body injury. Replacing Ronsberg at forward is another rookie who spent time in camp with the Cottonmouths last week, Jordan Zalba. Zalba joins the Cottonmouths after playing four seasons at Neumann College in Aston, Pennsylvania and being one of the final cuts in camp.

Two other players join the Cottonmouths after being camp casualties as defensemen Mike Switzer and goaltender Travis Bosch rejoin the roster. Switzer played last season for the cross state rival Augusta RiverHawks while Bosch joins the Snakes as a rookie having played the last two seasons with St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin.

To make room for Switzer and Bosch, Cottonmouth Head Coach Jerome Bechard released goaltender Jesse Chenard and defensemen Kevin Kessler. Chenard was another rookie trying to make the Cottonmouths squad while Kessler was entering his third season as a member of the Columbus Cottonmouths. The decision to release Kessler was especially tough considering his contributions over the previous two seasons.

"It's never easy to tell a player that their best isn't good enough," said Coach Bechard. "Kessler is a good hockey player and an even better young man. We wish him the best of luck moving forward."

The Cottonmouths return to action this weekend with home games on Friday November 1st and Saturday November 2nd. Friday night's game will be 80's Night as we invite all fans to wear their 80's costumes one night longer and compete to win a $100 prize. Saturday night will feature an exhibition game starting at 5:45 between the Infantry and Armored Divisions from Ft Benning and a special jersey auction to benefit the House of Heroes.
