Corpus Christi IceRays News Release

Corpus Christi, Texas: November 20, 2003 – The Corpus Christi Rayz have added a huge boost to their offense and resigned forward Cosmo Dupaul, Rayz General Manager /Senior Vice President Pat Dunn announced Thursday afternoon. Dupaul was the leading scorer for the Rayz last season, however he injured his knee in the off-season and was forced to sit out the beginning of the year. He will be in the lineup tonight for the first time this season as the Rayz host the Austin Ice Bats.

Dupaul, 28, had 71 points in 62 games last season to lead the Rayz. His 29 goals were second on the team and 42 assists topped the Rayz leaderboard. Dupaul's return to the ice is expected to give Corpus Christi a scoring boost that they have not seen in the first 13 games of the season, as the Rayz averaging less than three goals a game. The Quebec native is also expected to help the Rayz powerplay unit which is currently ranked 13th in the league at 13.8%.

"Cosmo knows how to succeed," said Dunn, who is also the Rayz' interim head coach after the recent release of Al Sims. "He's a measure of consistency every time he takes the ice, and that's what we need right now. This move is great for the players, the fans and the organization. It should provide the spark to turn things around."

Dupaul was drafted in the fourth round, 91st overall by the Ottawa Senators in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft. He was selected one pick after Eric Daze, and picked ahead of NHL stars Miroslav Satan and Tommy Salo. This will be Cosmo's seventh straight year in the WPHL/CHL so he's familiar with the teams and players he will face. His best offensive output came in 1997-98 with the Fort Worth Brahmas when in 68 games he tallied 40 goals and 59 assists for 99 points. Dupaul has averaged over a point per game in each of the last seven seasons.

With Dupaul's addition the Rayz have waived forward Shaun Fairweather. Fairweather had been the longest tenured member of the Rayz, dating back to the 2001-02 season. In 13 games this season, Fairweather had no goals and one assist, and had plus minus rating of -5. Fairweather's absence and Dupaul's arrival keep the team at the league mandated 18 players. Dupaul is the fifth and final veteran the Rayz can have on their roster.

The Rayz are currently 5-6-2 and in third place in the Southeast Division. They are winless in their last five games, but have a new head coach and new found scoring depth and are looking to turn things around tonight at the Memorial Coliseum against the Austin Ice Bats. Tickets are still available. Call (361) 814-PUCK for more information or go to the Memorial Coliseum box office for your chance to see the action.
