Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, Pa - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, announced Thursday the re-signing of right-handed pitcher Cory Hahn.

Hahn, the Wild Things 2006 Opening Night starter, did not complete the 2006 season due to an injury and season-ending Tommy John surgery. He allowed 33 hits in his 41 innings of work, completing the season with a 4-3 record and a 3.73 ERA.

"We're glad to see Cory back this year," said Ross Vecchio, general manager of the Wild Things. "He was our opening night starter last year, so it was especially disappointing when he went down; our plan is to bring him along slowly this year. We're confident he'll make a positive contribution to the team this season."

"I told Ross and Mazz before I even had the surgery that Washington was the only place I want to play," said Hahn. "I feel like they are the best fit for me, and they make it such a family atmosphere. "

Hahn was originally a 30th round pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2004 Major League Baseball Draft out of Tulane University and appeared in three games with Pulaski of the Appalachian League that season.

In 2005, Hahn returned to Pulaski where he appeared in 18 games, posting a record of 2-1 with a 1.69 ERA. He had 38 strikeouts while surrendering only six earned runs in 32 innings of relief. In July, Hahn appeared in nine games and had a 1.93 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 14 innings. Hahn had a 0.61 ERA in August, recording 17 strikeouts against three walks in 14.2 innings pitched and holding opponents to a .185 batting average.

During his senior season at Tulane in 2004, Hahn started 14 games and compiled a 9-2 record with 69 strikeouts in 88.2 innings. He was a second-team All-Conference USA selection.

As a junior, Hahn appeared in 16 games, including 15 starts and earned first-team All-Louisiana honors after leading the team in wins (9) and ERA (3.07) while ranking second in opponent batting average (.265) and strikeouts (70). Hahn had a team-best 7.16 strikeout-per-nine-innings average and a 2.50 strikeout-to-walk ratio while ranking third in Conference USA in wins. He was a 24th round pick in the MLB Draft by the Oakland Athletics in 2003.

In related news, the Traverse City Beach Bums announced they promoted former Wild Things shortstop Jon Cahill to fill the position of field manager. Cahill played for the Wild Things in 2003 and 2004, hitting a combined .280 in 181 games. Cahill turned in a .964 fielding percentage.

The Wild Things will play open their sixth season in the Frontier League in May of 2007. The team has advanced to post-season action an unprecedented five consecutive years. The team is currently accepting deposits for 2007 season ticket packages at the box office. The team will host an open house at the ballpark on April 21st when individual game tickets will go on sale. For information, call 724-250-9555.
