Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

Dubuque, IA - Dubuque Fighting Saints forward Gavin Cornforth has announced his decision to further his hockey and academic career with the Boston College Eagles.

"It's a huge honor to commit to Boston College which is a top notch program run by Coach Brown who was part of the team who drafted me to Dubuque," Cornforth said following his commitment. "Thanks to the Saints management and coaches for helping me along this journey."

Cornforth, who is a native of Boston, recorded four goals and six assists in 49 regular season games in his first season in Dubuque. He turned in one of his best performances of the season in the playoffs vs. Green Bay notching two assists in Game 2 of the series helping propel Dubuque to a 5-2 win and eventual series win over the Gamblers.

"We are ecstatic Gavin has committed to Boston College," head coach Kirk MacDonald said. "From the time he arrived in Dubuque he has shown a willingness to get better every day through his work ethic and attention to detail. He took huge steps last year in his development, as evidenced by his contributions during the playoffs versus Green Bay and Chicago. We look forward to his continued development here in Dubuque and helping him prepare for the next step in his career at Boston College."

Cornforth becomes the third player on the Fighting Saints 2023-24 roster to be headed to Boston College joining Jake Sondreal and incoming defenseman Seamus Powell, who just wrapped up his freshman season with the Eagles before deciding to return to the USHL. The ties back to Dubuque at Boston College are strong. The Eagles are led by head coach Greg Brown who was bench boss in Dubuque during the 2021-22 season.

Cornforth was originally selected by the Fighting Saints 12th overall in the 2022 USHL Phase I Draft. Boston College plays in the Hockey East conference and are coming off 14-16-6 season in Brown's first season as head coach.
