CornBelters walk off on Solorzano homer to complete comeback win

7-game road trip to Gateway & Evansville before final 3 home games next weekend

NORMAL, Ill. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, overcame a three-run deficit with four runs in the final three innings, capped by a game-ending home run by Jesus Solorzano, to complete a sweep of the Southern Illinois Miners, 6-5 on Thursday at the Corn Crib.

The CornBelters opened the scoring for the third straight game as they tallied in the second inning on a one-out infield single by Justin Fletcher, who scored from first on a double to the left field corner by Miguel Torres.

The Miners countered in the third inning in similar fashion, with a lead-off single by Brett Wiley who scored from first base on a double to the left center field gap by Ben Moore. Southern Illinois took the lead in the frame as Moore scored from third base on a fielder's choice and an infield RBI singles from Ryan Lashley and Craig Massoni gave the Miners a 3-1 lead.

The Belters mounted a rally in the bottom of that frame by loading the bases with one out and scoring on a sacrifice fly by Torres to cut the Miners lead to 4-2.

Southern Illinois added to the lead in the sixth inning with an RBI double at the base of the right center field fence by Anthony Critelli for a 5-2 advantage.

The CornBelters came within a run in the seventh with a two-run double by Justin Fletcher to the left field corner to slice the deficit to 5-4.

The Belters drew three one-out walks to load the bases in the eighth inning and tied the contest at 5-5 on a sacrifice fly to left by Aaron Dudley to plate pinch runner Ty Morris.

Solorzano homered for the second straight night as the best time possible, as he led off the ninth inning with a line drive home run to right center field to end the contest.

Jonathan De Marte (1-1) worked three relief innings for the win. Tre Hobbs (1-1) faced only Solorzano and took the loss. The Belters return to .500 at 40-40 while the Miners fall to 32-49.

The CornBelters begin a seven-game road trip on Friday in the Metro East area of St. Louis in Sauget, Ill. in the first of a three-game series against the Gateway Grizzlies. The Belters return home next weekend for the final three home games of the regular season, hosting the River City Rascals.
