
CornBelters Sign Former Chicago Cubs Prospect

Normal, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, have signedright-handed pitcher Manolin De Leon.The CornBelters will play their first game of the 2012 season at the Corn Crib on Friday, May 18 at 6:30pm (CEFCU Opening Night).
De Leon, of San Cristobal (Dominican Republic), began his professional baseball career in 2007 with the Dominican Summer League Cubs (Foreign Rookie). He split time in 2008 with the Arizona League Cubs (Rookie) and the Boise Hawks (Short-Season A). In 2009, he pitched for the Peoria Chiefs (Class A). He returned to Arizona and Peoria in 2010 where combined he finished the season with one win, two losses, a 4.73 ERA, and 30 strikeouts over 32.1 innings pitched. During his four seasons of affiliated play,he tallied nine wins, seven losses, a 3.23 ERA, 17 saves, and 129 strikeouts over 145.0 innings pitched.
"Manolin is another big boost to the bullpen," said CornBelters Field Manager, Chad Parker. "He's a quality, experienced relieverwho knows how to close out games."
