
CornBelters Shut out Grizzlies on Gillies Complete Game

NORMAL, Ill.* - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, held the Gateway Grizzlies off the scoreboard witha four-hit shutout by Charlie Gillies in the homestand finale and captured a 4-0 win on Sunday at the Corn Crib.
The CornBelters opened the scoring in the second inning with a single by Jesus Solorzano, a double by Nolan Meadows and an RBI fielder's choice by Justin Fletcher.
Solorzano scored the Belters' second run by leading off the fourth with a single followed by a base hit by Meadows, a sacrifice by Justin Fletcher and a sacrifice fly to left field by Diego Cedeno.
The Belters bumped their lead to 4-0 in the seventh inning when Miguel Torres led off with a base hit, was sacrificed to second by Cedeno and driven home by Brian Hakes with a double. Hakes later scored from third base on a wild pitch.
Gillies (5-7) earned his third complete game win with four hits, two walks and eight strikeouts. Vince Molesky (5-6) worked seven innings and took the loss, giving up four earned runs on seven hits with one walk and four strkeouts.
The CornBelters take Monday off before traveling to Southern Illinois for a three-game series Tuesday through Thursday. The Belters return home Friday to begin a six-game homestand, starting with a weekend series against the River City Rascals.
