Normal CornBelters News Release

Normal, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, are proud to announce that second baseman Brad Agustin and left-handed pitcher Andrew Guarrasi will be returning to the CornBelters roster for 2011. Following a six-game road trip to begin their second season, the CornBelters will play their first home game of the 2011 campaign at the Corn Crib on May 27 at 7pm versus the Southern Illinois Miners (CEFCU Opening Night).

Right-handed second baseman and New York native, Brad Agustin, joined the CornBelters as a free agent in late June of the 2010 inaugural season. He finished the season with a .228 batting average with 51 hits and a total of 30 runs scored. One highlight of Agustin's first season with the CornBelters includes a walk-off home run in the July 22 game against the River City Rascals. Leading off the bottom of the ninth inning, Agustin hit a walk-off home run that gave the CornBelters a 1-0 victory that night.

"I am looking forward to coming back to Normal for the best season yet. I'm ready for big things with the team this year, including improving on every aspect of the game and ultimately being championship bound," commented Agustin upon re-signing for 2011.

"Brad got an opportunity to play when he came to us last season and did a great job defensively. He turns the double play as good as anyone and will be competing for that position again. We would like to see better numbers offensively which I believe he is capable of doing," said field manager Hal Lanier.

Andrew Guarrasi played college ball at New York Tech Institute before joining the CornBelters pitching roster in 2010 as a free agent. While with the CornBelters, he finished 2-3 with a 5.83 ERA and 35 strikeouts during 41.2 innings. Guarrasi reached a career high of 11 strikeouts during the August 27 victory over the Evansville Otters.

"I am very anxious to get back to Normal and start the season. I had a lot of fun playing at the Corn Crib in front of the great crowd in 2010," said Guarrasi.

"Andrew has great potential in this game. He has a live arm and we like the way he threw for us last year. We are really happy to have him back for the 2011 season," added Lanier.THE NIBLET: Looking for a creative Valentine's Day gift Check out our Cupid Delivery, and you can have Corny or a CornBelters Player deliver a gift to your Valentine: http://bit.ly/hCvsdb.
