Normal CornBelters News Release
Normal, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, are proud to announce Chad Parker as their new field manager. He joins the CornBelters after leading his last two teams, in two different leagues, to playoff appearances. The CornBelters will play their first game of the 2012 season at the Corn Crib in mid-May (CEFCU Opening Night).
"We're thrilled to have someone of Chad's caliber on board with us," said CornBelters President, Steve Malliet. "In him, we're getting a proven winner both on and off the field. The fans will truly enjoy him, and I know he'll enjoy becoming part of the Bloomington-Normal community."
Parker began his coaching career as the head baseball coach at Brewton Parker College in Mount Vernon, GA. He rebuilt the program right away, and the team was nationally ranked in the top 10 in just two years. In 2007, he started his professional career as the bench coach for the Macon Music (of the now defunct South Coast League). The team finished with a league-best 63-33 record and finished runner up in the championship series. He worked as an associate scout for the Atlanta Braves in 2008 and joined the River City Rascals in 2009. The Rascals clinched a division title with a 56-38 record and finished runner-up in the championship series. He was later named Frontier League "Manager of the Year." In 2010, he joined the Joliet Jackhammers (of the now defunct Northern League). He led the team to a 53-47 record, playoff appearance and was personally named "Manager of the Year" for the second consecutive season.
Parker will be formally introduced as the CornBelters new field manager at a 1 p.m. press conference on Wednesday, October 12 at the Corn Crib. For more information, please contact Public/Media Relations Manager, Ashlynne Solvie.
