Normal CornBelters News Release
NORMAL, Illinois - Billy Roth has signed a contract with the CornBelters for the 2018 Frontier League season.
Roth was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates out of High School in 2013. He went on to spend four seasons in their organization where he held a 5.55 ERA (season-best of 3.26) with 131 strikeouts in 167 innings pitched and a 1.62 WHIP.
For the 2017 season, the 22-year-old split time between California City Whiptails of the Pecos League and the Sussex County Miners of the Canadian-American Association. Between the two teams, Roth combined for a 5-4 record with a 4.01 ERA and struck out 90 batters.
First-year Manager Billy Horn looks forward to having Roth make an impact in his rotation. "Billy Roth comes to Normal with five years in pro ball already. He has a lot of upside to MLB organizations with a good fastball and an arsenal of off-speed pitches. He will come into the rotation to start the season and will give us a chance to win every time he takes the ball."
