Lubbock Cotton Kings News Release

LUBBOCK, TX: August 9, 2006 - The Lubbock Cotton Kings of the Central Hockey League (CHL) added a new addition to the 2006/2007 roster with the signing of rookie forward Corey Rutt.

"The AJHL coaches I talked to each said Rutt's style of play will benefit us this season," said Cotton Kings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Chris Dashney. "The coaches each summed up his junior career by stating that once he was given the opportunity to play, he was a successful competitor that was gritty and tough to play against."

Rutt is 6'0" 195-pound forward who split the past season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) with the Lloydminster Bobcats and the Brooks Bandits. In 38 games with Lloydminster and 18 games with Brooks, Rutt combined for a junior career best 15 goals and 24 assists for 39 points. Rutt led Brooks with 162 penalty minutes. He saw postseason action in 15 games with Brooks as well last season and had 5 goals and 3 helpers for 8 points.

The Edmonton, Alberta native was part of the South Side Athletic Club growing up and joined the AJHL's Sherwood Park Crusaders in 02/03 for a pair of games. Rutt continued with the Crusaders in 03/04 and after a game in 04/05, he joined the Lloydminster Blazers. He scored 12 goals with the Blazers to rank tied for third on the club and also ranked fifth in points with 25. The 20 year-old closes out a junior career that included 30 goals and 40 assists for 70 points in 137 games, and 287 penalty minutes. Rutt's signing gives the Kings ten players announced for the 06/07 season. He joins goaltender Brett Koscielny, defensemen Chris Barth, Stacey Bauman, Jason Beatty and forwards Jimmy Callahan, Andrew Luciuk, Paul McBrien, Jaydyn Murray and Brian Sutherland on the 06/07 roster. With no games of professional experience, Rutt qualifies as a developmental player (128 games or less played). Each CHL team must have at least five developmental players on their roster.

The Cotton Kings are currently preparing for their eighth season of professional hockey in the South Plains. The season opener is set for Saturday, October 21st, as Lubbock hosts the Odessa Jackalopes at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum.
