SteelHounds Bring Chris Shaffer Back for Second Season

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds and Head Coach Jean Laforest announced the signing of Chris Shaffer to a one-year deal for the 2006-07 Central Hockey League (CHL) season. The forward returns to the Hounds after playing in 42 games with the team last year during his rookie season.

"Chris showed us a lot of talent and grit last season," said Laforest. "I am sure that he will prosper during his second year and be a big contributor to our efforts."

The native of Dryden, Ontario recorded 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists) in his first professional hockey season. He notched two goals in a Feb. 10 victory over Memphis and scored the team's fastest goal of the season (1:47) in a 5-4 victory over Tulsa on Feb. 7.

Before being signed by the SteelHounds on December 2, 2005, Shaffer dressed in 31 games with Lakehead University, scoring 14 goals with 12 assists and 75 penalty minutes. In his four-year career with the university the 5-11, 185 pound forward finished with 69 goals and 74 assists in 137 games.

Shaffer and the rest of the SteelHounds are set to drop the puck on the 2006-07 season on October 20 in Memphis with the home opener set for Friday, October 27 versus Rocky Mountain. For more information, please visit www.steelhounds.com or call 330-747-PUCK (7825).
